Among many energy storage technologies, iron-chromium flow battery is a large-scale energy storage technology with great development potential [ 1 ]. It can flexibly customize power and capacity according to needs, and has the advantages of long cycle life, good stability and easy recovery.
Fe-chromium flow batteries have electrochemical reactions on the surface of electrode materials, and the hydrophilicity and electrochemical activity of the electrodes will have a direct impact on the electrochemical reactions, which in turn have an important impact on the energy efficiency and power density of the battery [ 10 ].

Iron–chromium flow battery (ICFB) is one of the most promising technologies for energy storage systems, while the parasitic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) during the negative process remains a critical issue for the long-term operation.
